Over the last few weeks we have shared the news that Level 7 Senior Leader Apprenticeship is coming to an end. We have also mentioned the Apprenticeship Levy (on a few occasions) but what is it?
What is the Apprenticeship Levy?
A digital fund that businesses can use for approved apprenticeship training standards. Designed to help businesses upskill existing staff or bring in new talent through apprenticeship programmes.
Key Points
• UK employers with a pay bill over £3 million a year are charged 0.5% of their total pay bill
• Smaller businesses with a pay bill under £3 million don’t pay Levy
• Unspent Levy funds expire after 24 months.
Good News for Small Businesses
You can still benefit from government funding for apprenticeships with the government covering most of the training costs.
Changes Coming
The government is reforming the Apprenticeship Levy from April 2025 into 2026, with a new model being introduced that allows employers to use a portion of Levy funds for other types of training, not just apprenticeships.
Of course, there will be conditions and limits but we’ll keep you updated as soon as the government confirms the full details.

In the meantime, let’s get your 2026 business training plan ready, more flexibility is on the way!
